Within the Next Week, Facebook Intends to Rebrand Itself

According to The Verge, Facebook is considering a rebranding effort. The name will be discussed at the company’s annual Connect conference on October 28th, according to documents obtained by a source. It will reflect the focus on building a metaverse.

It’s possible the name will be revealed sooner rather than later, in which case it will serve as a sign that the company intends to expand beyond social media and the difficulties it has encountered there. An official from Facebook declined to comment on the rebranding, which is likely to position the social network as a standalone product similar to WhatsApp, Instagram, and Oculus.

The company announced plans to create 10,000 jobs in the European Union as part of an effort to create a “metaverse” earlier this week. After decades of use by other tech companies, Facebook appears to be reviving the buzzword. It wouldn’t be surprising to see it as the company’s overall name.

Another option is Horizon, as the VR gaming platform of the same name has been rebranded to “Horizon Worlds,” leaving the name free for use by the company. All of the current products will likely be unaffected by the rebranding, which will act as a parent company for all of the different brands under it, like Alphabet Inc.
