Mercedes-Benz Vehicles now Support Apple’s Spatial Audio Technology
If you’ve been using Apple headphones, you’ve been able to take advantage of Apple Music’s Spatial Audio feature for quite some time. However, Mercedes hopes to add this unique function to its vehicles as well. Future versions of the so-called MBUX infotainment system will incorporate it directly.
Along with Dolby Atmos, this technology will utilize the car’s internal speakers in Mercedes models. The limited edition Maybach by Virgil Abloh, which began selling in September, is the first vehicle to have Spatial Audio.
A total of 31 speakers are installed in the vehicle, including six overhead 3D speakers, four near-ear speakers located around the front seats, eight sound transducers located within the seats, two amplifiers, and an 18.5-liter subwoofer. The maximum power output of the system is 1,750W.
The EQS, EQS SUV, EQE, and S-Class will soon include Spatial Audio with the Maybach. The business said “soon,” but did not say when the update will roll out to other models.
Spatial Audio, as expected, is exclusive for paying subscribers to Apple Music.
