It’s Moto G Pure Time: a $160 Smartphone is Introduced with a 6.5-inch HD+ Display and the Latest Helio G25 Processor
A new Moto G phone, the Moto G Pure, was been announced by Motorola as the most affordable in the G-series. Even the G Play ($170 MSRP) is more expensive in the United States, at $160 (including tax). Both phones have a lot in common, but the Pure has to make some concessions in order to stay within its budget.
The Helio G25, which is at the bottom of the Helio G ladder, powers it. In order to achieve this performance, the chip has eight Cortex-A53 CPU cores and one PowerVR GE8320 graphics processing unit (GPU). The Snapdragon 460 in the G Play has four large A73-derived cores and a faster Adreno 610 GPU. It is an 11-nanometer chip that powers the G Play.
Additionally, the battery has been reduced by 20% to 4,000 mAh (vs. 5,000 mAh). The included adaptor allows for the same 10W charging power. According to Motorola, the battery life is good for two days under normal use.
The rest is pretty much the same as it was before. In terms of memory and storage, the G Pure comes with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage and a microSD card slot. Because of this, it comes pre-installed with Android 11.
The phone, like its sister, is made of plastic and has just rudimentary water resistance (IP52). Although it’s thinner and lighter, the Play measures 9.4mm and 204g, the Play is thinner and lighter.
This is with a 6.5-inch IPS LCD with a resolution of 720 pixels by 1,600 pixels (20:9). When compared to the Play, the front-facing camera’s f/2.4 aperture is darker but the pixel size is identical (1.12 m).
For the main 13 MP camera, the changes are the same (1.12 m pixels, f/2.2 vs. f/2.0). Both the front and rear cameras are capable of capturing 1080p video at 30 frames per second, while the Play’s rear camera is capable of capturing 1080p video at 60 frames per second (the Snapdragon is just more powerful). Whatever the case may be, there is a 13-megapixel camera, a 2-megapixel depth sensor, and a single LED flash on board. The back of the phone has a fingerprint reader as well.
Only the single-SIM version of the phone is available; check Motorola’s website to see if it works with US carriers (including VoLTE, Wi-Fi calling, etc.). Wifi 5 (ac) and Bluetooth 5.0 are also included, although NFC is missing from the mix. A USB-C 2.0 port on the bottom and a 3.5 mm headphone jack on the top provide wired connectivity.
The Moto G Pure will be available for pre-order on October 14 in the United States. Customers may purchase it at Motorola.com, Amazon, BestBuy, Walmart, and B&H Photo & Video, amongst others. Carriers will give it away for free if you sign up for a 24- or 30-month agreement.
The G Pure will be sold in Canada as well, but we couldn’t find it elsewhere. It comes in Deep Indigo as the single colour option.
