Chevrolet Silverado EV Surpasses F-150 Lightning and Rivian R1T in EPA Range

Chevrolet’s upcoming 2024 Silverado has received its EPA range rating, and the updated figures place it ahead of its competition in terms of range. The Silverado EV Work Truck impressively achieves an EPA-rated range of 450 miles, while the Silverado EV RST offers 400 miles. The closest competitor, the Rivian R1T, falls short with a range of 328 miles, and even Ford’s best-performing F-150 Lightning reaches only 320 miles.

Although the Silverado EV WT is primarily aimed at fleets rather than private buyers, even the Silverado EV RST surpasses its closest competitor by more than 70 miles. While EPA range estimates may not always align perfectly with real-world performance, they provide a glimpse into what Chevrolet’s first electric pickup truck will offer upon its release later this year.

Chevrolet attributes its impressive range to various factors, including aerodynamics. The Silverado EV is said to boast one of the lowest drag coefficients among full-size pickup trucks. It will be interesting to see how the Silverado’s range advantage influences its sales, considering it arrives later than the Ford F-150 Lightning, which has been available for two years, and the Rivian R1T, which debuted in late 2021.

Tesla’s Cybertruck famously claims a potential range of up to 500 miles, although an EPA estimate for that model has yet to be released. If the Cybertruck can achieve this range with its distinctive design, it may pose a significant challenge to other electric pickup truck manufacturers like Chevrolet, Ford, and Rivian, despite the Cybertruck’s polarizing appearance.

In addition to its impressive range, the Silverado EV comes with notable features. It offers 350 kW DC fast charging, capable of adding up to 100 miles of range in just ten minutes. The vehicle also includes 10.2 kW of vehicle-to-load power delivery with an adapter. Furthermore, Chevrolet has equipped the Silverado EV with eAWD, four-wheel steering, and adaptive air suspension for off-road capabilities and enhanced load-bearing performance. Power-wise, the Silverado EV RST delivers up to 785 lb-ft of torque and 754 hp, propelling the electric pickup truck from 0 to 60 mph in a mere 4.5 seconds.
