There are 7 New Movies and TV shows on Netflix, Amazon Prime, HBO Max, and More That Will be Available for Streaming This Weekend

    -

There's yet another round of fresh arrivals to the streaming services this week. Like most roundups we post every Friday, the latest crop brings together a large-budget studio adventure as well as a smaller-budget independent production.

In case you missed it, James Gunn's latest comic book movie, The Suicide Squad, arrives on HBO Max this weekend to bring its own “bonkers” approach to comic book movies and blast everything you previously thought you knew to bits (assuming you already knew about shark-legged people saying “nom nom” nonstop).

Also, Joseph Gordon-Levitt's new TV show for Apple TV Plus debuts. Also, Val Kilmer's autobiography is set to be released next year. Additionally, Paris Hilton hosts a Netflix cooking show.

To see what new movies and TV shows are available to stream, please have a look at the list below.

    The Suicide Squad (HBO Max)

James Gunn's The Suicide Squad combines familiar superhero themes with a unique and stylish interpretation of some of DC's wackier characters.

The highly anticipated sequel to 2016's David Ayer-directed movie, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (known as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2: Starro Attacks in some parts of the world) reintroduces several well-known faces from the first film, including Harley Quinn, Rick Flag, and Captain Boomerang, along with characters from films like Bloodsport and King Shark, to combat the gigantic, telepathic starfish, Starro.

While this may sound crazy, the movie has been lauded nearly universally for its uncompromising approach and for (mostly) setting things right from the last film.

Suicide Squad may not be to everyone's preferences, but for us, it is definitely worth watching.

    Mr. Corman (Apple TV Plus)

After a failed musician becomes a fifth-grade teacher, Mr. Corman follows the protagonist, who attempts to discover some sense of purpose in his life.

It's yet another comedy-drama series that Apple TV Plus has commissioned for 2021 (as well as being ahead of The Shrink Next Door, which arrives in November), and our assessment of the show indicates that it's a superb return to form for Levitt and very satisfying television escapism. Various stars have been announced, including Debra Winger, Juno Temple, and Hugo Weaving.

Three of Mr. Corman's ten episodes are currently available for streaming. The remaining episodes will arrive weekly.

    Val (Amazon Prime Video US)

Val Kilmer's life has been strange to say the least. In his 50s, the American actor has had his share of ups and downs, from being part of huge Hollywood hits like Top Gun, Batman Forever, and Heat to suffering throat cancer.
Apparently, he was there for all 40 years of it. On Amazon Prime Camera starting this weekend, Val watches the “magical life” of Robert Kilmer told through decades of home video footage. Irritatingly, it appears that it has only been available on the US version of Prime Video — which is only accessible through Prime Video USA.

Backstage gags, surprising appearances, and a number of tears are to be expected.

    Cooking with Paris (Netflix)

Something strange occurred during the production of this series: a show set in Paris that sees Paris Hilton cook for renowned friends of hers. Here, the term ‘cook' is best employed lightly, as opposed to how it is generally used.

The sequined socialite essentially does food shopping, brings a celebrity (like Kim Kardashian) over for dinner, and attempts to prepare an edible meal in Cooking with Paris. Based on what I've seen, this might be entertaining TV for some.

Critics may claim that it is a portrayal of a life lived “entirely without common sense,” but there might be some entertainment in this work.

    Vivo (Netflix)

Vivo, an original animated musical developed by Sony Pictures Animation, stars Lin-Manuel Miranda and Gloria Estefan in leading roles.

As Vivo goes from Cuba to Miami, delivering a love song to an old friend, his colourful journey follows. For people who value soundtrack over storytelling, and looking to be a bright, lively journey for young and elderly audiences, this offering is decidedly for you.

Short Circuit season 2 (Disney Plus)

Returning for a second season is Disney's under-the-radar anthology of short films called Short Circuit, which is loaded with action.

The show is basically about three main concepts: Love, Death, and Robots, but does so without any of the romantic, dramatic, or weird elements, featuring instead the idiosyncratic work of the studio's creative animators, who apply unique visual styles to create their own intriguing storylines.

At Disney, anyone can pitch a concept, and it's possible for anyone to be selected to develop their own short for the series.

Cocaine Cowboys: The Kings Of Miami (Netflix)

Of course, there's always a new Netflix documentary on hand when the weekend arrives, and the latest offering, Cocaine Cowboys: The Kings of Miami, serves up all the investigative action viewers have come to expect from the streamer's recent exposés.

This storey follows Sal Magluta and Willy Falcon, two Miami-based drug kingpins who, together, built an impressive résumé for themselves.

When it comes to this new six-episode series, expect jealousy and jet-skis. It looks like good preparation for the upcoming season of Narcos: Mexico.
