The Lenovo Tab P12 Pro is Now Running the Android 12L Developer Preview

Android 12L was announced in October as an upgrade of the current version of Google’s operating system for larger screens than those found on smartphones. We’re talking about tablets, foldables, and Chrome OS devices.

First Android 12L Developer Preview for the Lenovo Tab P12 Pro has been released as of this writing. Soon, a public beta for this tablet and Pixel devices will be available; Android 12L will also be released as an upgrade for phones, albeit its primary concentration is on larger devices.

For developers, Lenovo has set up a separate webpage where you can get the Android 12L Developer Preview release. According to Lenovo, Android 12L is “the first large-screen optimized Android OS with new APIs for application developers to enable a better app usage experience in landscape mode, including easier multitasking, system UI optimization, and more.” Android 3.0 Honeycomb would be a good topic for discussion.

To get started with the Lenovo Tab P12 Pro, you’ll need to visit this page for instructions (scroll down to the “Ready to get started?” section) if you’re a developer. Unless you’re an experienced Android user, it’s a no-brainer that you shouldn’t try this build on your Tab P12 Pro, as it’s a very early release and many features may not work at all. In addition, there should be a lot of bugs.

For example, the stylus button isn’t supported, multiple-finger touchpad gestures aren’t working, VPN isn’t guaranteed to operate, and WiDi and Miracast don’t function at all according to Lenovo’s list of known issues with this release at the time of writing. This is definitely not for the squeamish.
