Roblox has Been Restored to Service Following a Three-day Outage
Roblox went offline on Thursday night and remained offline until late Sunday night, when it was finally brought back online. A tweet from the company at 4 p.m. ET on Sunday said the regions were gradually coming back online.
According to an email from a company spokesperson to The Verge, the outage “involved growth in the number of servers in our datacenters and was not due to any peak in external traffic or any particular experience.”
Roblox’s CEO, David Baszucki, announced in a blog post that the company would “publish a post-mortem soon” and take measures to try to avoid the problems that caused the outage in the future.
“To the best of our knowledge, there has been no loss of player persistence data, and your Roblox experience should now be fully back to normal,” Baszucki wrote. “We are grateful for the patience and support of our players, developers, and partners during this time.”

In the early evening hours of October 28th, the platform reported that it was experiencing problems and stated that it was “working hard to get things back to normal.”
However, it has been determined that the outage was not caused by a cross-promotion with Chipotle that had just gone live 30 minutes before it began, as some had speculated, the company said “not related to any specific experiences or partnerships on the platform.”
As reported by The Verge late Saturday, Roblox confirmed that the outage was not caused by a “external intrusion” and that it had identified a “underlying internal cause.”
The company tweeted on Sunday that it had found the problem’s root cause and a solution, but provided no further information.
The outage on the hugely popular game-building platform, which has over 40 million daily users, lasted a remarkably long time. While it did provide some updates, the status page went nearly 24 hours without any new information. More than half of Roblox players are under the age of 13, so it’s likely that parents had a free weekend.
