Pre-orders for Valve’s Steam Deck will start shipping at the end of February
It’s official, according to the latest information from Valve, that the first batch of Steam Deck mobile gaming devices will ship before the end of the month. There have been supply chain delays since the portable gaming device was first revealed in July of 2021 with an original target of December of that year.
Steam has revealed in an update that the confirmed Steam Deck program has been running for some time and that “hundreds” of developer kits have been distributed in the last month, with more on the way.
For PC players who wish to play their PC games on the go, the Steam Deck is a mobile gaming computer designed specifically for this purpose. You can get up to 512GB of PCIe NVMe storage and a GPU based on AMD’s RDNA 2 architecture with this system, which has up to 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM installed.
The games run on a 7-inch touch screen with a 16:10 aspect ratio, and are designed at a resolution of 1280×800 pixels. Support for games made for Windows is included in the Steam OS 3.0 operating system that runs on the Steam Deck.
The Steam Deck has three layers. The $400 model has 64GB of eMMC storage, the $530 model has 256GB of NVMe SSD storage, and the $649 model comes with 512GB of NVMe storage and anti-glare etched glass. Right now, there’s a wait list for purchasing a Steam Deck. As of this writing, Valve expects new orders for all three tiers to be available after the second quarter of 2022.
