Motorola’s Moto G50 5G has only been available for a few weeks, having launched in late August, but it appears as though Motorola is already working on its successor, suitably dubbed Moto G51 5G.

Today, this forthcoming device completed a few benchmark tests, earning it a spot in the Geekbench database.

Motorola is reportedly upgrading from the MediaTek Dimensity 700 processor used in the G50 to a Qualcomm Snapdragon 750 SoC for the G51. As with the G50, the processor is paired with 4GB of RAM.

The Moto G51 5G runs Android 11, which is unsurprising given that we wouldn’t anticipate a lower-midrange device to come with Android 12 in 2021. That is all the information that the benchmark listing provides on the Moto G51 5G, and we have no idea what other changes may have been made in comparison to its predecessor.

While we understand that phone development cycles are lengthy, it appears as though this leak is either premature or Motorola does not want to give the G50 enough time to establish itself on the market. Could this be related to the ongoing (and now apparently endless) chip crisis? Who is to say. Hopefully, we’ll learn more about the G51 in the near future, so stay tuned.
