Leakster: The Triple 50MP Camera Featured in the Xiaomi 12 has a 5x Periscope

Three years ago, Xiaomi utilised several 108 MP sensors, including using one in the Mi 11 and Mix 4. Telephoto and ultra-wide cameras were still equipped with relatively low-resolution sensors, and some even had a resolution of 8-13 megapixels.

Rumor has claimed that the new generation of Mi phones (again, no ‘Mi’) will include a triple 50 MP arrangement, Digital Chat Station says. This denotes cameras with 50MPs of resolution (in the form of 50MP, 50MP, and 50MP).

Allegedly, this one will utilise a 5x periscope. Although it is reportedly available, the 10x lens is an unrealistic length for a periscope, as 5x optics along with a high-resolution sensor can offer smooth and detailed 5x to 10x zoom.

A 200MP sensor was reported, and that likely refers to the Xiaomi 12 Ultra. DCS has noted that 12-series products are at the final design verification stage, so the exact hardware specifications may still be subject to change.

The Axon 30 Ultra launched with a 64 MP triple camera from ZTE’s competition but with an 8MP camera instead of a periscope (the third 64MP camera had a 35 mm lens, which offered minimal optical zoom). Most periscopes with high resolution sensors are not commonly found. The Mi 11 Ultra from Xiaomi does offer a 48MP camera in addition to a 50MP primary and 48MP ultrawide camera.

Lastly, there is speculation that the Xiaomi 12 will have an LTPO AMOLED display with adaptive refresh rate that supports resolutions ranging from 1-120 Hz. Additionally, the handsets are expected to have Snapdragon 898 SoCs, with the accompanying LPDDR5X RAM.
