A new Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 processor has been unveiled by Qualcomm

In addition to Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 is now available as a midrange alternative in the Android market. In addition to Qualcomm’s dedicated AI Engine, up to 200MP image capture, and Android Ready SE for e-money solutions, the new 4nm platform brings several firsts to the SD 7 series.

2.4GHz-capable Kryo CPU cluster and Adreno 662 GPU are at the heart of the new SoC. According to Qualcomm, the new processor handles graphics 20 percent faster than the outgoing Snapdragon 778G, and AI tasks are said to perform 30 percent better.

In comparison to the SD 778G, the Adreno Frame Motion Engine is said to be able to double framerates in games while using the same amount of electricity. As much LP-DDR5 RAM as the new chip is capable of handling.

Snapdragon X62 5G modem, capable of 4.4 Gbps download speeds and dual standby 5G connectivity in both (SA) and (NSA) modes, is also included in SD 7 Gen 1. WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 with Qualcomm Sound and aptX support are also included in the package.

For up to 200MP photo and 4K HDR video recording, Qualcomm Spectra triple ISP is a welcome addition. Additionally, 10-bit HEIC photo and HEVC video recording are both supported. Finally, Android SE and Trusted Management Engine promise the best possible protection for digital keys and wallets.

A wide range of manufacturers will release Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 phones in the coming weeks. After its announcement on May 23, Oppo’s Reno8 Pro is expected to be the first phone with the new chipset to hit the market.
